Ayurvedic Para-Surgery

WHO-Acknowledged Minimally Invasive Care

Kshar Sutra (Ksharsutra) is a highly clinical, time-tested Ayurvedic para-surgical technique for managing complicated anorectal conditions. It stands as an exceptional alternative to modern surgery—providing a higher cure rate with minimal pain, no hospital stays, and a negligible recurrence rate (less than 1%).

The term "Kshar" refers to alkaline herbal substances and "Sutra" means a specialized linen thread. Combined, it represents a medicated thread coated multiple times with specific plant-derived latexes and alkaline ashes that work together to cut and heal diseased tissues simultaneously.

Under local anesthesia, the thread is passed through the infected fistulous tract or ligated around piles masses. It acts as an active chemical drain and cutter, allowing healthy tissue to granulate and close up naturally behind it.

Anorectal Focus Areas

Anal Fistula (Bhagandara)

Passes thread directly through the tract, slowly debriding and healing the deep tract without cutting the anal sphincter muscles, ensuring zero incontinence.

Piles (Haemorrhoids)

Ligation (tying) of the piles mass. Cut-off blood supply causes the hemorrhoidal tissue to shrink and fall off naturally within 5 to 7 days.

Anal Fissure & Sinus

Relieves internal sphincter muscle spasms and chemically scrapes pilonidal sinus tracts to encourage healing from the base.

Thread Preparation

The Meticulous 21-Coating Process

A surgical linen thread (size 20) is mounted on frames and processed in our sterile laboratory over several weeks.

Step 1 (11 Coatings)

Snuhi Latex Base

Coated 11 times with fresh latex of Snuhi (Euphorbia neriifolia). The latex provides proteolytic cutting enzymes that slowly excise diseased tissue.

Step 2 (7 Coatings)

Apamarga Alkaline Ash

Coated 7 times with Snuhi latex and alkaline ash of Apamarga (Achyranthes aspera). This alkaline layer debrides, scrapes, and sterilizes infected tracts.

Step 3 (3 Coatings)

Haridra Powder Finish

Finished with 3 coatings of Snuhi latex and Haridra (Turmeric) powder. The turmeric provides strong anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and tissue-healing actions.

Compare Options

Kshar Sutra vs. Conventional Surgery

Clinical studies show distinct benefits of para-surgical Ayurveda over standard surgical options.

Clinical Parameter Kshar Sutra Therapy Conventional Open Surgery
Hospital Stay Daycare procedure (returns home same day) Requires 3 - 5 days of hospitalization
Recurrence Rate Extremely low (Less than 1-2%) High recurrence in Fistula (15 - 20%)
Anaesthesia Local/Topical block (safer, fewer side effects) General or Spinal Anaesthesia
Sphincter Injury Risk Zero (no damage to anal sphincter muscles) Risk of muscle damage leading to stool incontinence
Recovery Time Resumes sedentary desk work in 24-48 hours Requires 3 - 4 weeks of complete bed rest
Patient Care

Post-Treatment Guidelines

Essential steps to support healing and ensure smooth recovery after your daycare procedure.

  • 1

    Daily Warm Sitz Bath

Sit in a tub of warm water containing rock salt or alum for 10-15 minutes after bowel movements. This reduces pain, relaxes muscles, and keeps the area sterile.

  • 2

    High Fiber & Hydrated Diet

Consume plenty of leafy vegetables, whole fruits, and drink 3-4 liters of water daily. Avoid hard stools which can pull on the therapeutic thread.

  • 3

    Regular Thread Dressing Change

Visit the clinic weekly for Dr. Ravindra to check progress and replace the Kshar Sutra thread. The thread change takes only 2 minutes and requires no anesthesia.
